Sirius of the Week for December 17 - 23, 2000

Meet Charles Henry the Hero Shih Tzu who is 3 years old. His person-mom adores him and he adores her. They live in Hull, Mass. by the beautiful ocean.

One of the things Charlie's mom loves is when she gets home from work, Charlie is always there -- a warm, sunny, smiling, furry face to greet her. They also love to run on the beach. Charlie's favorite toy is one those carnival snakes. He drags it everywhere. They call it affectionately Mr. Snakie. When Charlie hears Mr. Snakie is here, it a sure sign it time to play! His mom says, "I spoil him and in return I get a perfect wonderful loving fur baby."

Charlie is not just another pretty face. one morning it was about 5:00 am. (Charlie doesn't like to be woken before 7:00 am to go outside. He is spoiled, after all!) He went nuts on his mom's head with his little paw. She doesn't like getting up that early either, so she tried to ignore him. Then he started jumping up and down on the bed. She thought he wanted to play or go out. Finally she decided to get up.

When she got to the top of the stairs, Charlie went no further. This surprised Charlie's person-mom, because she knew if he wanted to go outside, he would have dashed down the stairs. Then she smelled GAS. Apparently the gas stove pilot light had gone out. How did he know? What would have happened if he hadn't woken his mom up? Truly a "hero dog!"

Charlie wants to say "Merry Christmas and don't forget to rescue adopt or foster because your new pet may save your life someday. Spay and neuter your pets as too many are homeless. Please also visit a rescue site soon."
