"Sirius-es" of the Week for December 3 - 9, 2000

Sweetcakes is a 7 year old Pekingese. Her humans got her from a breeder and found out later that she has severe hip dysplasia. She is doing well, though and hopefully she will be okay for the rest of her life. She loves to eat, especially CHEESE, and is a fabulous watchdog. She loves playing with her family's rescue Shih Tzu, Jellybean.

The Woofmuffins

Jellybean is now 5 years old and she had lateral luxated patellas. That means she was born with her kneecaps slipped to the outside of her legs. It is a congenital disease, which her mother had. She was from a puppy broker and went to a pet shop. When the pet shop found out about her handicap at 7 months of age, they gave her to veterinarian that her humans use, and told her if she couldn't find a home for her to put her to sleep.

Jellybean is a darling little furbaby with a sweet personality, and she just kisses everyone all the time. She loves fuzzy squeaky toys and treats. She also loves pulling on Sweetcakes' ear fringes and dragging her around to get her to play with her. She learned how to be a watchdog, too, from Sweetcakes.

They are wonderful companions and their person-mom would like to let everyone know that even though a dog has a handicap, it doesn't mean they won't or can't be a good pet. Jellybean and Sweetcakes both give their people lots of affection and unconditional love. As their mom says, "They are very dear to us."
