Sirius of the Week for November 6 - 12

Dimitri is our Sirius of the week, and this is a little tribute to him. His person mom writes,

"Dimitri is shown here at 11 months old. He was 1/2 black and tan coon hound and 1/2 treeing walker coon hound. A few weeks ago, our neighbor shot him. Dimitri had a great nose and caught many rabbits and pack rats during his short little life. I was lucky to know him.

"Here in New Mexico, it is common practice (and perfectly legal) for neighbors to shoot your dogs if they get onto their property. Unfortunately, Dimitri scratched his way under our fence, no doubt chasing a rabbit. We are watching our other dogs VERY closely."

[Editor: How tragic and sad -- and how unnecessary. Although dogs can be a dangerous threat to domestic animals, surely this neighbor knew this dog was a pet and knew who the dog belonged to. Perhaps the neighbor could have called and told Dimitri's people to come and get him. But no, apparently it was just easier to kill him.]
