Sirius of the Week for February 13 - 19, 2005
Emma is about 10 years old now, and her people think she is partly
American Staffordshire Terrier, German Shepherd and perhaps Beagle. Whatever she is,
she's a wonderful dog.
Emma had several owners in her early life -- she was fiesty and determined and loved
to run off. But when she came to live with her permanent family, they learned to keep
an eye on her when she gets a certain gleam in her eye. But with a large, fenced in
pasture to run around in, Emma is usually happy to stick close to home. She has many
canine "siblings" to play with.
Recently, Emma went through a difficult spell, and her people didn't know what was
wrong. They discovered that Emma is losing her hearing. They are retraining her
(and themselves) to know commands through sign language, and that seems to be making
Emma happier.
Things Emma likes to do: eat, run, have belly rubs, and play with kids, sticks, and balls.
