Sirius of the Week for February 9 - 15, 2003
This week we're featuring Alex. Alex's mom writes,
"This is a recent photo of Alex taken immediately after I bought my
first digital camera. Alex is a mentally retarded Shih Tzu. She
had brain damage at birth, and she does have some trouble learning
new information. For the first six months of her life I was unable
to leave a bowl of water out for her because she had a hard time
learning that if she put her whole face in the water to get a drink
she couldn't breathe. I had to leave one or two ice cubes at that
is all.
"She is absolutely the most adorable and sweet dog I have had in a
long time. She is full of personality and she loves people, cats,
other dogs, children, anyone. Believe it or not her favorite toy is
a pad of post it notes. When my neighbors come over with their dogs
so all the dogs can play they bring their toys, stuffed animals,
balls, etc. Alex just wants a pad of post it notes to chew on. For
Christmas her pooch friends went in together and gave her an
assortment of post it notes that were different sizes, shapes, and
colors. I have yet to figure out if it was really for Alex or if it
was more of a way to tease her Mom for her choice in toys. ;o)
"Her favorite game is to play tug of war with my hair but she is so
cute I have a hard time becoming too upset.
"Even though Alex is 4 years old I find it fascinating to watch her
with other dogs. All dogs seem to treat her as though she is a
puppy. Odd how they know something isn't quite the same as their
other pooch friends. Alex is my baby and I wouldn't change a thing
about her!"
