Siriuses of the Week for January 12 - 18, 2003

A litter of Irish Terrier Pups.
Born November 6th, 2002. (Pictured at 5 weeks)
Kelly, Dudley, Shy & Clancy.
Breeder: Tom Deluca

Tom writes,

"The origins of the Irish Terrier breed are not clear. A typically Irish mystic tale finds the Irish Terrier as a playmate of the elves, whose curiosity one night led it far astray. It was found by humans, cold and hungry. Having won its affection by their kindness, the Terrier swore an oath that it would never leave its new found friends, always guarding and protecting them, their belongings and most importantly their little ones that reminded it so much of home.

"If I were to characterize the most definable attributes of an Irish Terrier it would be their courage and good temper. They are assertive and unafraid, cheerful, playful, spirited, affectionate strong willed, reserved with strangers and challenging to enemies. They are just like a terrier, but more so. Daredevils, bold and reckless. He is a family member, companion hunter, and night watchman. Quick and agile they can cover 5 miles in 20 minutes. He can be unpredictable, devious and a tease with a high sense of humor. They make themselves at home where ever they are, always friendly to people and children, yet with a territorial streak that keeps him happily at odds with other dogs. The Irish Terrier is perhaps the finest dog on earth. He does not throw away his priceless devotion and loyalty on every stranger who may chirp at him. But to death, he is the comrade, protector, and exuberant playmate, and sympathizing comforter of the human who has won his heart."
