Sirius of the Week for February 13 - 19, 2000.

Grendel is a standard long-haired dachshund who will be 13 soon. He's the Elder Statesman of his pack, which consists of himself, Fenris, and Hydra (two previous Dog Stars).

Grendel's enormous amount of dignity has always made him seem a little aloof and stand-offish, but he's still an amiable dog for the most part. He's becoming a bit of a Grumpy Old Man as he ages, though, especially with that persistent young pup Fenris. He still wrangles and wrestles with the young upstart, though, and it seems to keep the old dog young at heart.

One of Grendel's nicknames is Oliver North, because he *LOVES* to shred things -- toys, clothes, paper products of all sorts, anything he can get his teeth on. Squeaky dog toys last about 30 seconds with him. The only toy he's never been able to destroy is the Booda Bone, which is essentially just a hunk of thick rope with a knot at either end.

His most peculiar trait: when you come in the house, he will grab a toy and walk around and around in circles about you. Doesn't want you to take the toy and play -- in fact, if you try to, he'll evade your hand -- just wants to show off his trophy, whatever it is.
