Sirius of the Week for February 6 - 12, 2000.
Hydra is a 12-year-old standard size long-haired dachshund. She was
originally owned by people who, though they didn't abuse her, didn't
love her or care about her, and she was just a nondescript sad brown lump
with no personality. When she came to her current home, though, with another
dog to play with, and people who loved her and paid attention to her,
she just blossomed into a wonderfully affectionate, happy little girl.
Originally, she was named Heidi, but since the other dachshunds in the
home (Fenris and Grendel) are named for monsters, she was re-christened
with a monster name, too.
She's never been much for playing, preferring to watch the other dogs
play "Kill da bunny!" and tug of war rather than participate. She's a
barker, though; if she even *imagines* that she heard something, she
can be difficult to shut up -- always has to have the last word. Frequently,
she sees her reflection in the windows and that sets her off,
barking furiously at herself.
Hydra is an affection junkie, always ready to cuddle. And who could resist
those big brown liquid eyes?
