Sirius of the Week for January 16 - 22, 2000.

Flurry is an 8 year old registered Jack Russell spayed female. She is Matthew's mother and our adopted child, as we took custody a year ago when her former owner-mom could no longer have dogs. She is the quintessential Jack Russell--very active, loves to hunt for mice, squirrels, and any other critters. She feels obligated to keep the birds from our back yard and spends considerable time driving them from bush to bush. Last summer she also discovered that she loves to swim, and would take turn after turn with our Welsh Terrier, Spike, in retrieving the rubber rat from the pool. She is anxious for it to get warm enough to open the pool again. Flurry is very much the alpha dog in our household--taking only a very short time to put the boys in their place. When she lived in California she had to sleep outside in a kennel at night. Now she has learned how comfortable one can be sleeping on her human's bed, and has taken to sleeping under the covers on cold nights. She has adjusted nicely to her new home.

The only problem that Flurry has is an inordinate fear of thunder storms. If there is no one around when a storm comes up, she will literally destroy the house in an attempt to get out and away. If there is anyone out there who has a good remedy for this situation, we would be very grateful!!
